Optimal design of double-layer barrel vaults using genetic and pattern search algorithms and optimized

Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering 2023, Volume 17, Issue 3,   Pages 378-395 doi: 10.1007/s11709-022-0899-9

Abstract: This paper presents a combined method based on optimized neural networks and optimization algorithms to solve structural optimization problems. The main idea is to utilize an optimized artificial neural network (OANN) as a surrogate model to reduce the number of computations for structural analysis. First, the OANN is trained appropriately. Subsequently, the main optimization problem is solved using the OANN and a population-based algorithm. The algorithms considered in this step are the arithmetic optimization algorithm (AOA) and genetic algorithm (GA). Finally, the abovementioned problem is solved using the optimal point obtained from the previous step and the pattern search (PS) algorithm. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, two numerical examples are considered. In the first example, the performance of two algorithms, OANN + AOA + PS and OANN + GA + PS, is investigated. Using the GA reduces the elapsed time by approximately 50% compared with using the AOA. Results show that both the OANN + GA + PS and OANN + AOA + PS algorithms perform well in solving structural optimization problems and achieve the same optimal design. However, the OANN + GA + PS algorithm requires significantly fewer function evaluations to achieve the same accuracy as the OANN + AOA + PS algorithm.

Spacecraft damage infrared detection algorithm for hypervelocity impact based on double-layer multi-target Research Article

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2022, Volume 23, Issue 4,   Pages 571-586 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.2000695

Abstract: To detect spacecraft damage caused by hypervelocity impact, we propose an advanced spacecraft defect extraction algorithm based on infrared imaging detection. The (GMM) is used to classify the temperature change characteristics in the sampled data of the infrared video stream and reconstruct the image to obtain the infrared reconstructed image (IRRI) reflecting the defect characteristics. The designed segmentation objective function is used to ensure the effectiveness of results for noise removal and detail preservation, while taking into account the complexity of IRRI (that is, the required trade-offs are different). A multi-objective optimization algorithm is introduced to achieve balance between detail preservation and noise removal, and a multi-objective evolutionary algorithm based on decomposition (MOEA/D) is used for optimization to ensure damage segmentation accuracy. Experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Effect of Joule heating on electro-osmotic flow in a closed-end micro-channel with isothermal and convective boundary conditions

Liang ZHAO, Linhua LIU,

Frontiers in Energy 2009, Volume 3, Issue 4,   Pages 381-388 doi: 10.1007/s11708-009-0057-2

Abstract: The effect of Joule heating on the steady state electro-osmotic flow in a closed-end micro-channel is studied through numerical simulation with the finite volume method. The velocity field and the temperature field are described by a rigorous mathematical model. Thermophysical properties including viscosity and thermal conductivity are considered to be temperature-dependent. The simulations show that the presence of Joule heating causes an increase in temperature and a decrease in viscosity in the whole micro-channel, which, thereafter, induce a large velocity near the wall and an increase in fluid velocity at the central region in order to maintain a zero flow rate at the cross section of the micro-channel. The effect of Joule heating on the induced pressure gradient is also studied, which is very important for the application of the closed-end micro-channel as a micro-actuator. The results reveal that the induced pressure gradient, taking into consideration Joule heating, is significantly smaller than that without considering Joule heating when the wall temperature of the micro-channel is constant. The induced pressure gradient difference between considering Joule heating and without considering Joule heating is small under the convective boundary condition.

High-emitter identification for heavy-duty vehicles by temporal optimization LSTMand an adaptive dynamic Research Article

Zhenyi XU, Renjun WANG, Yang CAO, Yu KANG

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2023, Volume 24, Issue 11,   Pages 1633-1646 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.2300005

Abstract: Heavy-duty diesel vehicles are important sources of urban nitrogen oxides (NO) in actual applications for environmental compliance, emitting more than 80% of NO and more than 90% of particulate matter (PM) in total vehicle emissions. The detection and control of heavy-duty diesel emissions are critical for protecting public health. Currently, vehicles on the road must be regularly tested, every six months or once a year, to filter out high-emission mobile sources at vehicle inspection stations. However, it is difficult to effectively screen high-emission vehicles in time with a long interval between annual inspections, and the fixed threshold cannot adapt to the dynamic changes of vehicle driving conditions. An is installed inside the vehicle and can record the vehicle’s emission data in real time. In this paper, we propose a long short-term memory (LSTM) and adaptive approach to identify heavy-duty high-emitters by using OBD data, which can continuously track and record the emission status in real time. First, a LSTM emission prediction model is established to solve the attention bias discrepancy problem on time steps that is caused by the large number of OBD data streams in practice. Then, the concentration prediction error sequence is detected and distinguished from the anomalous emission contexts using flexible criteria, calculated by an adaptive with changing driving conditions. Finally, a similarity metric strategy for the time series is introduced to correct some pseudo anomalous results. Experiments on three real OBD time-series emission datasets demonstrate that our method can achieve high accuracy anomalous emission identification.
